UAE Announced Ramadan 2020 Starts Friday April 24
The confirmation was made after the meeting of the Committee after the prayers of the Maghreb.
Traditionally, the first day of Ramadan is observed by the sighting of the crescent moon with the naked eye, which is the ninth month of the Islamic calendar. April 23 is the 30th of Sha'ban, the final day of the Islamic month just before Ramadan.
The UAE Fatwa Council declared on Sunday that it is appropriate for COVID-19 patients not to fast Ramadan. Healthy individuals will fast, said the Council after a simulated meeting headed by Sheik Abdullah bin Bayyah, a few days before the beginning of the fasting month — which is scheduled to start on Friday, April 24.
This year, Muslims might celebrate a Ramadan like none previous, due to the outbreak of the global pandemic of COVID-19. Congregational and Taraweeh prayers will be held at home, while mosques and places of worship will proceed to be shut down during Ramadan for the same of human safety.
Eid-Al-Fitr indicates the end of Ramadan on Shawwal's first day. The three-day event will also be a national holiday in the UAE. The dates will be reported by the authorities later.
